Barbless Hook Award at Hawaii Fishing and Seafood Festival

Barbless Hook Award at Hawaii Fishing and Seafood Festival, October 7th

This year’s Hawaii Fishing and Seafood Festival this weekend was a big success. Bryson Kawaihae won 1st place in the Tokunaga Ulua Challenge for catching a 85.3 lb ulua caught using a barbless hook. PIFSC project manager, Kurt Kawamoto, has been promoting these hooks as a way to reduce injuries from incidental hookings of green sea turtles and Hawaiian monk seals.
